Hello, my lovely readers,
I’m thrilled to announce that – along with my friend Kelly Morton – I’m launching a second newsletter The Intentionalist on Substack.
This quarterly newsletter Glamour comes from the word Grammar – to which you are subscribed and where I describe things going on in my writing world – will continue.
The Intentionalist is something quite different.
For those of you who are familiar with my writing and my social media, you’ll know that I am very much about living consciously and with purpose. But in the last few years, I’ve really upped my game.
The reason was that my challenges got bigger – and at some points quite overwhelming – especially when I became the full-time carer for my increasingly frail father while still trying to keep my own life and writing afloat. When I looked at the recordings of myself in interviews during that time, I could see the strain on my face and hear it in my voice.
I found it difficult to feel joy when I was exhausted all the time
There was one point while writing my latest novel The Masterpiece when I thought it might be time to give up writing. It was mentally too hard when everything else demanded my attention.
It was reaching that point of being on the verge of giving something up that has been one of my greatest passions, that I knew I had to bring myself back to life again. As well as finding full-time care for my father, I wanted to get more intentional about my thinking and how I was showing up in my life.
I didn’t want to have occasional splashes of inspiration, I wanted to live an inspired life.
To live intentionally is to live life on purpose. While goal-setting and intention-setting are related, they are not the same thing.
Setting a goal is about taking action
Setting an intention is a conscious decision about how you are going to show up in the world – that is, who you are being.
You can set a goal to travel the world, but to become an adventurous, bold, daring, curious or cultured person is an intention.
I’d always been a person who journaled daily. But over the last few years, I’ve become very interested in neuroscience and how the brain works.
Part of that interest led me to use journal prompts to get to the root of some of my unhelpful thinking, creative blocks and negative habits. I found the habit so life-changing, that after a much-excited discussion with my web designer and positivity partner, Kelly Morton, we decided to launch a weekly newsletter where each Friday we’ll share journal prompts and affirmations that support living a purposeful, conscious and inspired life.
Some prompts are for self-discovery, others are to help overcome blocks and negative thinking and the purpose of the newsletter is to get as many of us as possible feeling great about our lives right now, no matter what is going on.
When we feel good, we feel inspired, passionate, confident and ready to be our best selves. And most importantly, when we elevate our energy, we elevate the energy of the world around us.
Our first issue of The Intentionalist is coming out this Friday, September 27th.
It’s free and you can subscribe here:
We hope you’ll join us each Friday on the journey to making feeling great a way of life.
With Love and Inspiration for a Happier World,
Belinda & Kelly XX
